Moles - Damage

Moles are often erroneously accused of eating the roots of grass and plants. They feed on insects and their damage is indirect. The fact is that other animals can use these tunnels. These rodents cause more damage to plants in the orchards. While burrowing for insects, moles might uproot plants. Moles are sometimes responsible for disfiguring lawns and parks, destroying flowerbeds and making it difficult for some green-keepers to mow the lawn.

However, this damage is minor in comparison with the benefit the mole brings. Irrigating and aerating the soil and consuming worms and other soil-dwelling creatures, moles do not deserve the reputation of pests. Nevertheless, if you are serious about your intention to get rid of the mole nuisance, there is a number of ways to do it humanely.

Moles - Methods of Control

Trapping and poison control are both difficult and inhumane. However, some claim these control methods to be most effective. One more way of mole control might be complicated and far-reaching, but rather productive. It is changing the mole's environment so that the mole will have to move elsewhere. For instance, the weasel is known to be the mole's natural enemy. If there is a weasel in the neighborhood, it may drive the pest away. In addition, if your orchard stops being a friendly environment for insects and other stuff the mole feeds on, it will be forced to search for food somewhere else.

Other than these methods, there are other possible ways to battle the mole. For example, barriers, flooding, noise and other methods are among the most effective in dealing with moles.
